Megan MacLean
M.S.W., R.S.W., B.Ed. & B.A. Psych
Behind the letters and training, I am a dog mom who enjoys hiking and traveling, spending time with friends, sipping coffee in the city and learning all I can about mental health and trauma. I am a constant learner in this adventure called life and have found my own personal experiences with therapy to be transformative and insightful.
Your relationship with your therapist is the most important part of your therapy success. It supersedes the amount of training and type of therapy that you will come across in the helping professions.
As your therapist, I bring in skills that I learned not only through my clinical experience working with people, but ones I can stand by as I have learned and applied them in my own mental health and trauma recovery journey.
Fun facts:
I am the eldest daughter, only granddaughter and niece in my family
I lived in Korea for three years in my mid-twenties
I am a fan of music festivals and electronic music (PLUR)
I was the first in my family to pursue university education
Street Cred and Training
I am a Registered Social Worker and Ontario Certified Teacher who holds a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.), and bachelor degrees in psychology (B.A) and education (B.Ed.). My work history includes almost two decades of mental health and social support in community settings, schools, shelters and rehabilitative programs. Some of my therapy background includes trauma counselling for young adults and youth who have been subjected to sexual abuse, family and intimate partner violence as well as human trafficking. I have also counselled folks living with anxiety and depression through a major Canadian mental health organization. My extensive background and education as a guidance counsellor and youth worker has fuelled my ongoing passion for supporting folks as they journey into adulthood.
My style is:
Personal over clinical
Rooted in the belief that wellness is impacted by our biological, social, spiritual and physical realities and histories
You are the expert of your own life
“What happened to you?”over “What’s wrong with you?”
Conversational with evidence based tools
My Therapeutic Approach
I work from a feminist, anti-racist framework and am humbled by the continuous learning life has to offer. With this, my work continues to connect me with folks from all walks of life. I have been honoured to spend my career working with racialized and neurodivergent folks as well as people in the LGBTQ2S+ community.
Some of the therapies I have trained and practiced in are:
Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT)
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
